Today, on the blog, I’d like to talk about my session with Andy Eversole. Headshots and portraits are really some of my favorite kinds of photography and I'm always excited to see how my lighting can help express someone's personality. I'd also like to invite you to contact me when you're ready to think about your own headshot session.
First, let me tell you a little about Andy. He and I met a few years ago at a musical gig where a banjoist with music-literacy was required. I know there’s a joke in there somewhere, but I’m not telling that story;) Anyway, thanks to Martha Bassett for introducing us! Since meeting Andy, I’ve realized that he knows so many of the same people that I know and that everybody vouches for his kind nature and great personality.
Andy is also a Consulting Hypnotist offering sessions designed to promote all kinds of wellness including weight-loss, sleep disorders, and even kicking a smoking habit. I’ve never tried hypnosis, but I can say that spending time with Andy will definitely have you feeling awesome, even if it’s just for a conversation.
During Andy’s headshot session, I wanted to work with a very simple one-light setup and just try some new things that I’d been thinking about for a while. Andy didn’t mind the science experiment and we got some really interesting portraits from some of the configurations. I typically use a fairly large softbox, but this time I experimented with placing some flags around Andy’s face to create more interesting shadows. Later, we tried some different things with the natural light and a reflector in the studio.
Andy even brought some cool props like this gas-mask straight out of a sci-fi show. I’ll admit that it was a little weird for me because I always try to pay special attention to the subject’s eyes. I’m always open to new things, though, and Andy made it so easy to have fun.
If you’re interested in a headshot session or if you have a cool concept for a series of portraits, I’d love to talk to you. Click on the contact page so we can talk about customizing a session just for you.
