Wild-West Road-Trip: Getting to know the RV

Published: July 1st, 2017

I've driven an RV on two separate occasions before this. The first was a trip to the Charlotte Motor Speedway with Jen and our friend, Laura. We figured that would be a really safe way of getting started with the RV experience since there would be lots of other people around to help us if we got into trouble. The second time, we took the family to Shenandoah National Park and a UVA football game in the same weekend. Both of those trips were fun and encouraged us in our plans to take this much longer trip.

This RV is a decent step up from the two that we'd rented before. For one, this RV is several feet longer, has a more powerful engine, and includes slide-outs that make all the difference in the world. After all, one of the biggest deterrents to traveling and staying in an RV is the sense that you never have enough space. I'm telling you that the slide-outs help so much! Essentially, the wall expands using an electric motor and that adds many cubic feet of space to the interior of the RV.

The pictures from this post will focus on the exterior. When I was getting all the media together, Jen was still organizing the interior and she insisted that I not show it until she was done. I'll show more of the interior as we get into the trip. The exterior has everything you'd need. Plenty of storage, hookups for water, sewer, cable, and access to the electrical and propane utilities.

The main focus of today's activity was to get the RV ready for travel. We went to Walmart. We actually went twice. We got so much stuff, too. Basically, we picked up everything that we needed that couldn't fly with us on the plane. This included toiletries, food, tools, coolers, power solutions for charging devices, and other items like a laundry basket and coat-hangers.

Anyway, I'll be back with more tomorrow. Thanks for reading and for thinking about us while we're gone. Eventually, I'll take some real pics and we can talk about that instead:)

It looks just amazing. Hope all goes well so you will think it's worth doing again sometime. It'll be interesting to hear some of the kids' comments as the trip evolves.
