A Refined Vision

Web Re-Design with a purpose

Anyone who has known my dad for long enough knows that it’s not uncommon for my mother to complain that he’s moved the furniture in the house, again. It’s just something he does when he feels antsy about how things are situated in his space, and I completely understand.

For a while, now, I’ve wondered why my website wasn’t attracting more potential clients. I’m not talking about people who actually book a session, I mean people who just come to look at the site. It turns out that there are so many components that go into designing a productive site, and each one of those parts has to work well in its environment in order for the whole thing to succeed.

I felt like things were getting a little stale at the old site. It’s still a great site for what it does, which is primarily sell prints of my work to clients. But my main complaint has been that it’s fairly difficult for me to use that platform as a means to communicate my vision with prospective clients. After several months of research and weeks of actual work, I am really pleased to say that the new site is live, and if you’re here then you know that already!

So, here’s what’s new at SunsetHillsPhotography.com, and here’s what you can expect to appear in the future. For starters, the homepage now shares more about the kinds of photographic services that I offer as well as some text that may help answer some potential clients’ questions. At the top of the page, I’ve included links to read about me, contact me, and read my blog (more on that in a minute). I also have a link to the old site, which I have transferred to a completely new domain (shpprints.com) that will remain as an open portal for all my previous and new clients for purchasing prints and other awesome products from my awesome professional photo-lab in California.

Let’s go back and talk about the blog - a concept that still excites me despite my failure to post anything consistently last year. Creating a blog on the old site was really difficult. I had zero motivation to fight with the system that seemed so clunky, so I gave up. What’s different this time is that I’ve scrapped the old system and created a new one (with some amazing partners) that will let me communicate more effectively with fewer obstacles. What’s even better is that I already have several posts ready to go, so the content will be more consistent.

Speaking of content, I would love your feedback - either in the comments here or in a message sent through the contact me page. I’d love to know what you want to see or what you’re willing to read. Here’s what’s on the table: photography tutorials, photoshop tutorials, photography experiences (like planning for your session), travel experiences, highlights from client sessions, personal work, and maybe some product reviews.

That’s it for this post (it’s probably already too long!) but I look forward to hearing from you. Thank you, as always, for taking the time to read this and for your support!
